When this 27-year-old singer/songwriter/something-or-other stands before a crowded room, he becomes a hypnotist. His pure, dynamic, and operatic voice mesmerizes, dancing in and out of perfect falsettos, while his dramatic and oft weighty lyrics inspire thought and emotion. As the vocalist for Chicago act Air This Side of Caution, Raine has taken his voice to startlingly different plateaus, from appearing on WGN to opening for national acts like The Goo Goo Dolls and John Mellencamp. As a solo act, Raine has done shows throughout the midwest, including a few guest appearances at the Uncommon Ground Jeff Buckley Tribute, as well as a featured spot at the Toronto Buckley Tribute. But as many will tell you, seeing Raine with a band and seeing him solo are two totally different experiences. Within a band, Raine tends to project himself in an amplified state, 50,000 watts of emotion pouring into your mind, whereas in a solo setting, he prefers understatement, allowing the audience to feel what they will. |
