Joel Styzens is a drummer/percussionist, songwriter and electronic music composer. He is originally from Springfield, IL and is a graduate of Millikin University (class of '03) where he earned a degree in Music Business and Percussion, specializing in drum set, hand drums and mallet instruments. During his schooling, he performed with a large collection of percussion and jazz groups around the country, traveled to the Dominican Republic with one of Millikin's finest jazz groups and taught in the University's preparatory department. Joel currently freelances in the Chicago music circuit where he's involved in several different projects. He also travels with a handful of other groups, teaches at the Old Town School of Folk Music and runs his own private percussion studio. He has collaborated with musicians in every style from Jazz to Rock and enjoys incorporating all of the elements into his teaching and performing. |
