What would you get if Ani Difranco, Bright Eyes and Damien Rice were road tripping to Canada to party with Alanis Morrisette and Tegan and Sara? You’d get Kristen Ford, an up and coming beat boxing folk rock musician from Boston.

Kristen blends all different sounds and genres into something she can call her own, we like to call it freshly popped folk rock. Her personality is directly reflected in the music she makes. It’s hilariously fun, like the song “Short Me Steve”. It’s deep and insightful, like her song “Better”, and it’s laid back, like “Green Tea”. Kristen encompasses everything you’d look for in an artist that is eclectic and willing to try anything at least once and her debut EP Bad News First showcases that perfectly.

Kristen is becoming a very well rounded musician and has played throughout the country creating relationships with everyone along the way. Her fan base continues to grow and her main followings in Boston and Chicago continue to support her as she goes. Kristen has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with big timers like Nettwerk Records star, Erin McKeown, and other Chicago up and comers like Baker London and The Fuumes, Nikki Capra, and Claire Stahlecker. Kristen is one of those musicians that knows what she wants and she’s ready and willing to do what she needs to to get it. Those who have come out to see Kristen perform live have seen something totally different. They come knowing her sound already or are just checking it out for the first time and then the time comes when Kristen does something that not many folk rock musicians do, she breaks out in a several minute beat boxing sequence and then seamlessly goes into the song as the always present cheering dies down. Now how often do you see that?

Modesty, creativity, and pure raw talent is Kristen Ford. She’s someone who brings something new to the current setting of music today. She’s done extremely well for herself and after selling out her first show she said “It kind of freaked me out, I didn’t know that many people would like what I do.” People do like this new sound emanating from Chicago and others will soon hear it and love it too. She’s out there doing what she does and she will be for a long time. Come check out the sound that is truly something new and unique and fun. Kristen Ford, the beat boxing folk rock musician from Beantown.
