Carley Baer
Carley Baer's very first instrument was a Casio SK-1 keyboard, a fact she'll proudly own up to. Her audience at the tender age of 5 mostly consisted of her family, who remember to this day her very first hit, "Moonbeams."
After a brief love/hate relationship with the violin, Carley picked up the guitar. It was a move rooted in convenience; since her father is an avid guitarist and songwriter, there were always guitars around the house. However, after a few years of learning, she began writing songs of her own. Most of them were junk, but she kept at it, and at 16 wrote the cult favorite "The Stalker Song."
In high school she formed what was later deemed the most popular independent band of the year, Samoa. Samoa enjoyed a two year run, eventually evolving into io Donna. That group released their independent debut, "watching waiting," which is available on CDbaby.
Eventually, after such milestones as the South Dakota State Fair, io Donna disbanded and Carley set out on her own. After a fateful meeting with her "future self," she became determined to forge a path as a musician. She recorded her solo debut, "Still Life," in the summer of 2005. The album is a bare-bones look at her songwriting past and present. She hopes to record a follow-up in the next year, and in the meantime is looking forward to her first summer tour. |
