Jocelyn Scofield
Jocelyn Scofield is a dynamic and multi-talented singer/songwriter working hard to carve her own path in the music business. Music Connection Magazine recently called her “a natural storyteller” and the Lansing State Journal said she “redefines the term ‘road warrior.’” Indie-Music Magazine called Jocelyn a “true composer…with a voice like a gutsier Fiona Apple,” to whom she is most often compared. However, you won’t find any knockoffs in her sound. It unmistakably her own.
Jocelyn has performed in venues ranging from tiny coffeehouses to the 61,000-seat Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago. In 2004, she moved to Los Angeles from Chicago where she was the voice of choice for emerging songwriters at Summer Song Records, Inc. Never one to wait for life to happen, upon arriving in Los Angeles she immediately began performing. In 2005, Jocelyn toured extensively through southern California, performing between four to 10 shows a month. She has been seen giving her trademark heart-felt, witty, and spontaneous performances at Genghis Cohen, Room 5, The Rainbow, Casey’s, Club 7969, Highland Grounds, and Borders Books and Music throughout California.
In November of 2005, Jocelyn released her debut album, This Life, which contained eight original songs. Upon the release of This Life, she embarked on a two-month national tour. With just her gear and clothes, Jocelyn traveled solo 13,000 miles across country, playing thirty-two shows in twenty-five states from November through January. The tour was in support of the Habitat for Humanity’s Operation Home Delivery for which she raised five hundred dollars. Two dollars from every CD and donations collected during the shows went to assist in Operation Home Delivery’s hurricane relief effort. After returning to California, she found another outlet for her songwriting-writing for others. She began co-writing songs with Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer, Rick Hahn (Celine Dion, Taylor Dayne, David Foster) to pitch to other artists.
In April of 2006, one of Jocelyn’s songs was featured and critiqued on a listening panel during the ASCAP I Create Music Expo with songwriter Phil Gladston (“Save the Best for Last,” “The Sweetest Days”). Most recently, Jocelyn was one of fourteen composers from around the United States chosen by the Johnny Mercer Foundation to participate in their 1st Annual Power of the American Popular Song workshop from August 7-12. Top songwriters including Alan Bergman ("The Way We Were”), David Zippel (Disney’s Hercules), and Amanda McBroom ("The Rose") will be the master teachers, working with Jocelyn and the other participants on their compositions. At the end of the week, she will be performing her compositions at Northwestern University in An Evening with New, Emerging Songwriters concert on August 11. On August 12th, she will perform with the master teachers in the Johnny Mercer Tribute Concert held at the Josephine Louis Theatre. The concert and workshop are in conjunction with the Johnny Mercer Tribute Festival and the American Musical Theatre Project.
From August through October of 2006, Jocelyn will be on her second solo national tour-this time focusing on the East Coast. She will play an eclectic mix of restaurant/bars, coffeehouses, and music venues, as well as the Atlantis Music Conference (GA), Takoma Park Folk Festival (MD), Saugatuck Center for the Arts (MI), and Fennville Winery Concert Series (MI).
Lastly, she is also working on her other passion, the education of conservation. We as Americans take so much or granted and are more wasteful than any other country. It will also focus on how dramatically reduce our fossil fuel emissions by simple changes in our daily routine. |
