Jim Gilmour

Vermont resident Jim Gilmour began writing songs in earnest in 1998. After twenty years of supporting other artists as producer, sound engineer, and side musician, in 2002, Jim finally recorded a solo CD. The CD “Quarterline” produced and engineered by Ben Wisch and supported by Duke Levine, March Schulman and Shawn Pelton captures an intimate portrait of Jim’s style and sound. On release of Quarterline, Jim teamed up with Paul Carroccio on drums and Ryan Dubois on bass and the Jim Gilmour Band began supporting the new CD. Since then the band has been touring regularly and loving it. The hours and miles of performing together has developed a comfortable style and interaction that encourages risk, with electrifing results.

Jim founded his compositional style while searching for new sounds and grooves on his acoustic guitar using multiple and partial capos, and alternate tunings. His subjects, sometimes veiled, sometimes chillingly frank are composed from the everyday subjects of life; the temptations of addiction, love and love lost, and the power of connection, all while celebrating the mystery of life.

Not content to work in a vacuum, Jim tours in a variety of configurations but most often with the Jim Gilmour Band; Paul, Ryan and Jim-drums/bass/guitar. Jim’s style is casual, and confident, and his comfortable delivery of anecdotes and audience interaction results in a captivating, if not curious, show.

In addition to his solo career Jim continues to produce and engineer CD’s for independent artists. He is also a frequent bassist and backing vocalist and guitarist for friends on the road and in the studio. He has worked with artists such as James Mee, Kort & Beth McCumber, Rick Redington, Duane Carleton, jam band Foxtrot Zulu, and many, other acts including the Celtic band, Wind That Shakes the Barley.
