Sandy Andina honed her humor chops in Chicago's comedy clubs and has been not only a folksinger but also a bassist and vocalist (lead and backing) for various Chicago rock bands for over 25 years. She released her debut solo CD, "Ghosts and Angels" on her own Essay label in 2001 after returning to the solo folk circuit and studying songwriting at the Old Town School of Folk Music with Ralph Covert (who also produced the CD), Michael ("The Dutchman") Smith and Steve Earle. She's also had her songs appear on numerous compilations and received airplay on public, college, commercial (including WFMT's "The Midnight Special"), satellite, internet and syndicated (including "Dr. Demento") radio worldwide; done live-in-studio performances on radio and cable TV; and been part of the cast of the Chicago Bar Ass'n.'s annual Christmas Spirits vaudeville revue for the past three years. She's performed solo all over the Great Lakes states as well as KS, DC, VA, NC, CA, Nashville, Las Vegas, Montreal and even Puerto Vallarta.. These days, she's one-half (with veteran singer-songwriter Susan Urban) of the acoustic original-classic-folk multi-instrumental and harmony duo "Sass!" which in its first year has performed all over the Midwest and Southeast. She also performs occasionally with Madison, WI singer/cowboy comic/songwriter Stephen Lee Rich as "Andina & Rich," whose debut CD is expected to be released on Madison's Travenia label before the end of 2005. Sandy plays acoustic guitar and mountain dulcimer with Sass! and also includes electric bass, frailing banjo, electric rhythm guitar and autoharp in her instrumental arsenal; she has also been known to commit attempted harmonica onstage.
